International Polish Studies – 2nd cycle studies
Are you into the humanities and social sciences? Do you want to put these skills to use in ways other than just studying languages and literature? Have you already completed your bachelor’s degree? Choose the International Polish Studies!
Interdisciplinary Nature
The degree programme combines the study of the Polish language with other languages, Polish and world literature, and the cultures of various regions of Europe and the world.
You’ll also improve your intercultural skills and learn how to work effectively in multi-ethnic groups. By meeting people from different countries and exploring diverse customs, you will foster open-mindedness and gain a fresh perspective on your own culture.
The curriculum features courses in culture, language, literature, history, and art, alongside practical classes in interpersonal and intercultural communication

Curriculum

Duration of studies: 4 semesters
Number of ECTS credits: 120
Selected degree programme courses:
- Europe of Communities and Regions – lays the foundations for a discussion on the cultures of Europe.
- Genealogy of Polish Culture – covers the development and changes in the Polish culture.
- Linguistic Worldview – presents the history of the concept of ‘linguistic worldview’, and how it developed over time.
- Elements of International Law – covers key legal provisions regarding cultural and educational initiatives.

Majors
The degree programme’s majors are tailor-made to the job market.
You can choose from three majors:
- Cultural Consulting – will prepare you to work at cultural institutions and on international projects, giving you the knowledge needed to bring your ideas to life;
- Cultural Journalism – will prepare you for a career in the media as a journalist or media worker, and introduce you to new channels and ways of reaching audiences;
- Translation and Interpreting – will make your work as a translator and interpreter easier, show you how to translate and edit texts, and outline the legal and institutional aspects of the profession
Graduation Requirements
The degree programme in International Polish Studies allows you to select a Master’s degree seminar and choose your thesis supervisor. After your thesis receives a positive review, you will take an oral exam before a committee consisting of a chair, your supervisor, and a reviewer.

Admission to studies at the University of Silesia is conducted via the Online Application System (IRK): irk.us.edu.pl.

Admission Rules
You can apply for the 2nd cycle studies if you have:
- a Bachelor’s or Master’s studies graduation diploma,
- a foreign diploma that allows you to study in the country of issue.
Admission is determined by your position on the ranking list, which is drawn up on the basis of your degree assessment and your average grade.

Point Thresholds
We do not set minimum point thresholds for any field of study at the University of Silesia.
Committees create ranking lists during the admission process. Admission thresholds change every year, as they depend on the number of candidates, their high school graduation exam results, and the applicable qualification rules.
Additional Criteria
You do not need to meet any additional criteria to begin studies in this degree programme.
Internships
One of the key benefits of the International Polish Studies programme is the 30-hour inter-semester internship. During your internship, you will work in cultural and educational institutions and international companies related to your major.
The internship will grant you 2 ECTS credits

International Polish Studies is designed for ambitious and forward-thinking students looking for new opportunities. As a student, you will take part in projects that showcase the rich tapestry of the Polish culture and the diverse cultures of the world.
The degree programme is a chance to broaden your global horizons.
- You’ll be studying in an international group.
- You’ll have classes with lecturers from universities abroad.
- You’ll plan and organise cultural events both on and off campus.
- You can learn languages (e.g. Czech, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Korean) with native speakers.
- You’ll visit diplomatic posts and connect with cultural figures, business leaders, and diplomats.
- You’ll have the opportunity to complete internships at home and abroad.
During your studies, you’ll gain solid and practical knowledge from lecturers who combine academic theory with practice and have experience working in international settings.
Study abroad
You gain experience through trips to European universities as part of the Erasmus+ and other exchange programmes. You also learn from international students and lecturers who come to Poland.
Thanks to Erasmus+, you can go abroad and complete an internship in one of 31 countries or spend part of a semester studying at a partner university in countries such as:
