During your 1st cycle studies, you will learn how to:

Computer Science – 1st cycle studies

In the first-cycle studies programme, you do not choose a major. From the fourth semester, a wide range of elective courses allows you to shape your own learning path and specialise in today’s most exciting areas of computer science, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and game development. It’s a programme designed for curious, creative people who want to turn their ideas into innovative technologies.

Computer Science – 2nd cycle studies

The Computer Science Master’s degree studies do not offer majors. However, a wide range of elective courses allows you to develop your own interests and focus on selected areas of IT. This degree programme is designed for students who want to make full use of the opportunities offered by the modern IT industry.

Computer Science – 1st cycle studies

In order to take the diploma examination, you have to:

  • achieve the learning outcomes provided for in the curriculum,
  • confirm the required level of a foreign language,
  • successfully complete your diploma project.

Upon successful completion of the programme, you will be awarded the Engineer degree, together with a higher education diploma certifying the knowledge, skills, and qualifications you have gained during your studies.

Computer Science – 2nd cycle studies in Polish

The Master’s degree in Computer Science is the next level of expertise in IT and the final step toward earning your Master’s title. To complete your studies, you must:

  • pass all required courses and examinations,
  • prepare and defend your Master’s thesis,
  • obtain the required number of ECTS credits.

After successfully defending your thesis, you will receive a Master of Science in Computer Science diploma, opening the door to exciting projects, career advancement in Poland and abroad, or further academic development.

Admission process

The admission process for studies at the University of Silesia is carried out via the Online Application System at irk.us.edu.pl (IRK).

Computer science – 1st cycle studies, full-time and part-time

Admissions to university are determined by the results of the Matura exam. We take the written examination in the selected subjects.

We take into account:

Mathematics

One of the subjects of your choice: biology, chemistry, physics/physics and astronomy, geography, computer science or mathematics

Modern foreign language

weight = 60%

weight = 30%

weight = 10%

  • The result of the basic-level examination is multiplied by a factor of 0.5, while the result of the extended-level examination is multiplied by a factor of 1. The resulting value is then multiplied by the subject weight.

  • If an applicant took the same subject at both the basic and extended levels in the secondary school leaving examination, the result that is more advantageous to the applicant after applying the relevant factor and subject weighting will be taken into account.

  • The same subject may be counted twice in the admission process, provided that the applicant took it at two different levels: basic and extended. However, the result from the same level cannot be counted more than once.

  • The result of a bilingual examination in a modern foreign language will be converted into an extended-level result by multiplying it by 4/3. The maximum converted result at the extended level cannot exceed 100%; if the calculated result is higher, it will be capped at 100%.

  • If an applicant did not take a required subject in the secondary school leaving examination, they will receive zero points for that subject but will still be eligible to participate in the admission process.

  • Detailed admission rules for applicants holding the old secondary school leaving certificate are set out in § 14 of the Resolution.

  • Admission to the programme is determined by the applicant’s position on the ranking list, which is based on the total number of points obtained. If the number of applicants does not exceed the established admission limit, all applicants who obtain more than 0 points will be admitted.

2nd cycle full-time studies

Applicants who hold an engineer’s degree, a master’s degree, or a foreign higher education diploma that entitles them to undertake Master’s studies in the country where it was awarded are eligible to apply.

Admission is based on the final degree classification.

The order of admission is determined by the applicant’s position on the ranking list, based on the applicant’s score (WK), calculated according to the following formula:

Applicant’s score:

WK = 3 × D + O

where:

  • WK – applicant’s score,
  • D – the final degree classification obtained in a programme assigned to the leading discipline of Technical Computer Science and Telecommunications or Computer Science (D = 0 if the applicant did not graduate from a programme assigned to either of these leading disciplines),
  • O – the final degree classification obtained in a programme assigned to a discipline other than Technical Computer Science and Telecommunications or Computer Science.

Admission is conducted for the summer semester.

2nd cycle part-time studies

Applicants who hold an engineer’s degree, a master’s degree, or a foreign higher education diploma that entitles them to undertake Master’s studies in the country where it was awarded are eligible to apply.

Admission is based on the final degree classification.

The order of admission is determined by the applicant’s position on the ranking list, based on the applicant’s score (WK), calculated according to the following formula:

  • WK – applicant’s score,

Admission is conducted for both the winter and summer semesters.

We do not set minimum point thresholds for any field of study at the University of Silesia.

Committees create ranking lists during the admission process. Admission thresholds vary every year, as they depend on the number of candidates, their grades, and the applicable qualification rules.

Applicants should have English language skills at least at B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The application fee for the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in Computer Science is PLN 85.

Internships and practical training

From your first year until graduation, you will complete 90 hours of professional placement with IT companies. It’s an opportunity to apply your knowledge to real-world projects, gain valuable industry experience, and take your first steps into your future career. You can arrange your own placement or choose from a network of trusted industry partners working with the university. It’s also a great way to build professional connections within the IT sector.

Through the Erasmus+ programme, you can also spend part of your studies or complete an internship abroad. You’ll have access to 31 partner universities and institutions across Europe, including in France, Spain, Germany, and Türkiye. Studying or working abroad allows you to gain international experience, improve your language skills, and broaden your career prospects in the global IT industry.

Cooperation

Thanks to cooperation between the Faculty of Science and Technology and IT companies, the programme offers more than theoretical knowledge. You can take part in workshops, training sessions, and conferences.

The faculty also offers access to Oracle, Microsoft, and Cisco Academies. There you can learn from experts, gain recognised certificates, and work with modern technologies.
