The studies will prepare you to apply philosophies in practice and conduct professional coaching sessions. You’ll learn how to build relationships, communicate clearly, and work effectively in a team. You’ll acquire the knowledge and tools that you can use in personal growth and teamwork.
As a future philosophical counselor, you will:
- work with individuals facing existential crises, such as grief, loneliness, a lack of meaning, or moral dilemmas,
- help them better understand themselves and discover their own value systems,
- develop critical thinking skills, analyse beliefs, and understand ethical and cultural differences,
- learn to lead coaching processes rooted in clear communication, authenticity, and trust,
- become familiar with industry standards, codes of ethics, and specific practical techniques.
The curriculum encompasses philosophy, psychology, and coaching. Many classes are highly practical and held in small groups. You can also choose elective courses aligned with your interests.

Curriculum

Duration of studies: 6 semesters (1st cycle), 4 semesters (2nd cycle)
Number of ECTS credits: 180 (1st cycle)
Selected courses in the Philosophical Counselling and Coaching degree programme – 1st cycle:
- Philosophy of Dialogue – introduces and explores philosophical notions, concepts, and methods related to dialogue.
- Professional Ethics of a Coach and Business Ethics – discusses selected ethical issues in coaching and business.
- Psychology in Team Management – teaches you how to build good relationships within a team, motivate and support staff, and deal with conflicts.
Selected courses in the Philosophical Counselling and Coaching degree programme – 2nd cycle:
- Professional Ethics of a Coach – covers codes of ethics and case studies.
- Life coaching with Supervision – allows you to practise your coaching skills in a group setting.
- Existential Philosophy and Psychology – presents the main positions and issues in existential philosophy and psychology.
Forms of classes:
- lectures
- practicals
- seminars – classes based on group discussions
- laboratory classes – hands-on learning in specialist workrooms
- workshops.
The full-time programme offers more class hours than its part-time counterpart. Apart from that, the curriculum remains the same – you have to complete the same modules, except for PE classes during 1st cycle studies..
Majors
You do not select a major as a 1st cycle student of Philosophical Counselling and Coaching. However, this does not mean that you won’t gain practical coaching experience. You will work with clients, but to a limited extent.
At the Master’s level, you will pursue one of two majors:
- Individual Counselling and Life Coaching,
- Institutional Counselling and Business Coaching.
You do not have to be a graduate of 1st cycle programme in Philosophical Counselling and Coaching to start this Master’s degree. Nonetheless, it will be easier for you if you have a background in humanities or social sciences. The 2nd cycle studies introduce specialised modules in philosophy and psychology designed to deepen your knowledge and expertise in these fields.
Graduation Requirements
In order to take the diploma examination, you have to:
- achieve the learning outcomes specified in the curriculum,
- know a foreign language,
- receive a positive thesis grade.
You finish your studies with a diploma exam with at least a ‘satisfactory’ grade. Upon completing your studies, you will receive an engineering degree that confirms your qualifications.

Admission Process
The admission process for studies at the University of Silesia is carried out via the Online Application System at irk.us.edu.pl (IRK).

Admission Rules
Full-time 1st cycle studies
Admissions to university for the 1st cycle studies is determined by the results of the Matura exam. We take into account the written examination in the selected subjects:

You can apply for the 2nd cycle studies if you have:
- a Bachelor’s or Master’s studies graduation diploma,
- a foreign diploma that allows you to study in the country of issue.
Criteria:
Admission is determined by your position on the ranking list, which is drawn up on the basis of your degree assessment and your average grade.
Point Thresholds
We do not set minimum point thresholds for any field of study at the University of Silesia.
Committees create ranking lists during the admission process. Admission thresholds change every year, as they depend on the number of candidates, their high school graduation exam results, and the applicable qualification rules.
Additional Criteria
You do not need to meet any additional criteria to begin studies in this degree programme.
Internships and Traineeships
There are no internships or work placements in the 1st cycle degree programme in Philosophical Counselling and Coaching.
During your 2nd cycle studies, however, you will complete professional placements starting as early as the second semester, and your Master’s thesis will be practical in nature
Collaboration
The programme will provide opportunities to establish new connections and benefit from experiences outside the academic landscape, attend guest lectures by people associated with academic centres from Poland and abroad, and meet coaches and business trainers who lead open workshops and show new methods of work.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Polish Society for Philosophical Consulting, you will develop modern solutions in philosophical counselling, explore best practices and learn more about ethical standards. Moreover, you will have opportunities to participate in international educational grants.
As part of the Erasmus+ programme, you can complete an internship abroad at various institutions or partially study at one of the partner universities in 31 programme countries, including:

As a graduate, you can work as:

You will also excel in emerging professions that require logical thinking, effective communication, and a solid grasp of coaching methods and techniques, and successfully put your psychological skills into practice.

Opracowałam program studiów z doradztwa filozoficznego i coachingu na UŚ i kieruję Polskim Towarzystwem Doradztwa Filozoficznego. W pracy łączę filozofię z praktyką rozwojową, a po godzinach wędruję po górach, słucham opery i włóczę się bez celu.
