Description
The programme lasts 3.5 years (7 semesters) and leads to the degree of Bachelor of Engineering. It provides a solid foundation for a career in the new technologies sector.
At the beginning of your studies, you will learn programming in Python – a simple and widely used language that will allow you to quickly build your own projects and experiment with code.
The curriculum includes courses in modern technologies and embedded systems, such as robotics, microcontrollers, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Classes are practical and taught by experienced lecturers – computer scientists, mathematicians, and physicists – who will show you how modern technologies are applied in real-world settings.

Applied Computer Science is a programme that combines practical skills with modern technologies. You prepare for a career in the IT industry while taking part in interdisciplinary projects. It is not only about learning to program, but also about developing the skills needed to design and implement innovative technological solutions.

Majors
There are no majors in Applied Computer Science – it is you who decides what to study. You have a great deal of freedom when choosing modules and can tailor your studies to your interests and career plans.
To help you make your choices, in the third year we offer two sample study paths that you can use as inspiration – but in the end, you decide which direction to take.
By creating your own study path, you can focus on what interests you most: from programming and game development to modern IT technologies.
Graduation requirements
In order to take the diploma examination, you have to:
- pass all required courses and examinations,
- confirm your knowledge of a foreign language,
- receive a positive assessment of your diploma project.
The diploma examination is the final stage of your studies. It allows you to demonstrate what you have learned and how you can apply your knowledge in practice. After passing the examination, you receive Engineer’s degree. It opens the door to a career in the IT industry, further professional development, or continuing your education.

Admission
The admission process for studies at the University of Silesia is carried out via the Online Application System at irk.us.edu.pl (IRK).

Admission requirements for 2026/27 academic year
1st cycle studies — Engineer’s degree
Admissions to university is determined by the results of the Matura exam. We take the written examination in the selected subjects:

weight = 60% | weight = 30% | weight = 10% |
- The result of a basic-level Matura exam is multiplied by a factor of 0.5, while the result of an extended-level examination is multiplied by a factor of 1. The result is then multiplied by the weighting assigned to the subject.
- If the applicant took the same subject at both the basic and extended levels, the result that is more favourable to the applicant after applying the appropriate factor and subject weighting will be taken into account.
- The same subject may be included twice in the admissions calculation, provided that the applicant took it at two different levels (basic and extended). However, the result from the same level cannot be counted more than once.
- The result of a bilingual examination in a modern foreign language is converted into an extended-level result by multiplying it by 4/3. The converted extended-level result cannot exceed 100%; if it does, it is capped at 100%.
- If the applicant did not take a required subject in the matriculation examination, they receive 0 points for that subject but are still eligible to participate in the admissions process.
- Detailed rules for the qualification of applicants holding the old Polish secondary school leaving certificate (old matura) are set out in § 14 of the Resolution.
- Admission is based on the applicant’s position on the ranking list, which is determined by the total number of points obtained. If the number of applicants does not exceed the admission limit, all applicants whose total score is greater than 0 will be admitted.
Admission requirements for 2027/28 academic year
Full-time 1st cycle studies — Engineer’s degree
Admissions to university is determined by the results of the Matura exam. We take the written examination in the selected subjects:

* Only the results of Diplomas Confirming Vocational Qualifications or Vocational Diplomas issued within the Polish education system are taken into account.
For holders of a Diploma Confirming Vocational Qualifications, the more favourable result will be taken into account — either the written or the practical part of the examination.
For holders of a Vocational Diploma, the final result of the vocational examinations will be taken into account.

We do not set minimum point thresholds for any field of study at the University of Silesia.
Committees create ranking lists during the admission process. Admission thresholds vary every year, as they depend on the number of candidates, their grades, and the applicable qualification rules.

Internships and practical training
Engineering Internship – take your first step into the world of IT!
At the end of your third year, you will complete a 160-hour internship, where you can gain experience in IT companies or in positions that require IT skills – even outside the IT sector. You can also complete your internship at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Silesia. There, you will take part in research projects in various fields, learn how researchers work, and discover what research recognised in Poland and abroad looks like. It is a great opportunity to combine theory with practice and gain valuable hands-on experience.
