International Business Law and Arbitration (IBLA) – 2nd cycle studies

Description

Are you interested in the international law, global business and mechanisms of dispute resolution beyond national borders? The degree programme in International Business Law and Arbitration (IBLA) will prepare you for a career in such a challenging international environment.

The programme gives opportunities to grasp the functioning of law in global economy and regulations applying to the relations between entrepreneurs, investors and countries. You will learn how to analyse complex legal issues related to conducting business activity and designing effective solutions, as well as putting them into practice.

Classes are taught in English, helping students prepare for careers in an international legal and business environment. During the studies, you work with authentic legal acts and documents, learning the terminology used in international business practice.

During the studies you will:

  • acquire advanced knowledge in international trade and economic law,
  • work with case studies based on real disputes and international transactions,
  • You will take part in simulated arbitration proceedings, expanding your skills in legal argumentation and arbitration strategy,
  • meet with professionals: arbitrators, lawyers from international law firms, and industry experts,
  • expand competencies required to work in multicultural environment.

International arbitration plays a key role in the programme – as one of the most important and fastest-growing methods of resolving disputes in global business. Thanks to cooperation with industry professionals, you will gain insight into international arbitration in theory and in practice.

The curriculum covers the issues of business ethics, human rights, corporate social responsibility, and consumer protection, preparing to informed and responsible professional work.

Classes take place from Monday to Thursday, giving you space to gain professional experience, engage in traineeships, join research groups or find a job as early as during your studies.

The degree programme is a natural career path for graduates of law, administration, and economics who wish to specialise in international business transactions and work in a global environment.

The programme is designed for students who want to combine law with business and pursue careers in international law firms, arbitration bodies, financial institutions, or global organisations.

Selected courses in International Business Law and Arbitration

  • Commercial Law – learn how commercial law works and explore the basic rules of conducting business activity.
  • International and European Labour Law – discover the main principles and regulations of international and European labour law.
  • Capital Market Regulations – understand how capital markets operate in Poland, the European Union and worldwide.
  • Human Rights in Business – explore the sources of human rights and international mechanisms for their protection.
  • Mediation in Business – explore legal, economic, business and psychological sides of economic disputes.

The International Business Law and Arbitration programme does not offer majors.

To take the final examination, you must:

  • pass all the learning outcomes specified in the curriculum,
  • obtain a positive grade for your thesis.

You complete your studies when you pass the diploma examination with a positive grade. After completing your studies, you will receive a higher education diploma confirming your qualifications.

ADMISSION

Admission to studies at the University of Silesia is conducted via the Online Application System (IRK): irk.us.edu.pl.

In IRK, you can enrol for studies and check all the necessary information, including What the admission process looks like, what the deadlines are, how much the admission fee is and what documents you need to submit.

You may apply for second-cycle studies after obtaining at least a Bachelor’s degree in any field of study. Register in the Online Application System and submit all the required documents.

Limit of places: 50

We do not set minimum point thresholds for any field of study at the University of Silesia.

Committees create ranking lists during the admission process. Admission thresholds change every year, as they depend on the number of candidates, their high school graduation exam results, and the applicable qualification rules.

In order to pursue the degree programme in International Business Law and Arbitration you must have at least B2 level English proficiency (according to the Common European Framework of Reference).

The fee for participating in the admission process for the International Business Law and Arbitration programme is PLN 85.

The International Business Law and Arbitration programme does not offer internships, apprenticeships and traineeships.

COOPERATION

During the studies you may take part in Erasmus+ programme. The exchange programme gives you the opportunity to study for part of a semester at a partner university in one of 31 countries. The programme covers universities located in such countries as: Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Latvia, Greece, Germany, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Türkiye, Italy, and Lithuania.

After graduating, you may pursue a career (also outside Poland) as in-house counsel, a government official, a lawyer in an international organisation (including governmental organisations), or a professional business lawyer (for graduates of the Law programme).

You can:

  • work in the private sector – law firms; business advisory companies; national and international organisations involved in international business; banks and other financial institutions; insurance companies; notary offices, etc.
  • work in the public sector – national, European and international institutions promoting business development; regulatory agencies; academic and research institutions; commercial dispute resolution bodies (courts, tribunals, and arbitration institutions); other organisations (e.g. associations promoting and protecting the rights and interests of consumers and employees).
  • work as an independent consultant or start your own company offering legal advisory services.

  • know the international and European law and understand connections between different legal systems,
  • know the fundamental legal terminology and understand the differences between national and international law, and private and public law,
