Description

The Theology degree programme involves classical theological studies. We conduct them in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church. By choosing this programme, you will learn about the history and development of Christianity and the basics of philosophy. This knowledge will help you develop your skills in other disciplines as well. The programme is carried out as full-time and part-time Master’s degree studies.

Curriculum

Duration of studies: 10 semesters

Number of ECTS credits: 300

Selected courses:

Philosophy of God – you will learn about the attributes of God and the arguments for and against His existence.

Philosophy of Nature and Natural Science – you will learn, among other things, what science and faith have in common. You will understand how philosophy influences the understanding of current dilemmas.

Church Art – you will learn how art is used in the Church and find out the answers to questions related to the objects used during the liturgy.

History of the Church in Silesia – you will learn about the history of Christianity in Silesia and how the Church has influenced people, culture, and social changes.

The Liturgical Year and the Liturgy of the Hours – You will learn what the liturgical year and the liturgy of the hours are and how to understand and celebrate them, and their significance for the Church and culture.

You can choose one of the two following majors:

  • Theology: Teacher Training Programme – after which you can become a religious education teacher
  • Theology: General Theology – a basic theology programme

To take the diploma examination, you must:

  • pass all the learning outcomes provided for in the curriculum,
  • confirm the required foreign language skills,
  • obtain a positive assessment of the thesis.

You finish your studies when you pass the diploma exam

Upon graduation, you will receive a higher education diploma to confirm your qualifications.

Admission

Admission to studies at the University of Silesia is carried out via the Online Application System (IRK): irk.us.edu.pl.

Use IRK to apply for studies and check all the information you need. You will find out how recruitment works, what the deadlines are, how much the admission fee is and what documents you need to submit.

Admission to the programme is determined by your Polish language Matura exam result. The basic-level score is multiplied by 0.5, and the advanced-level score by 1. If you took the Polish language Matura exam at both the basic and advanced levels, we will select the result that is more favourable for you.

In addition, to be admitted to the programme, you must attend an interview. The interview will focus on your knowledge of religion and your reasons for choosing this field of study.

Limit of slots: 25

At the University of Silesia, we do not set minimum point thresholds for any degree programme.

The committees create ranking lists during the admission process. Admission thresholds change every year, as they depend on the number of candidates, their Matura exam results and the applicable qualification rules.

Students accept the programme’s Christian perspective and strive to understand its principles.

Internships and work experience

We know that theory is not everything. That is why, during your studies, you will complete compulsory internships that will allow you to put your knowledge into practice.

Theology: Teacher Training Programme – 170 hours

Where will you do your internship?

As a student of the Theology: Teacher Training Programme, you will complete your internships at a primary and secondary school.

Theology: General Theology – no internships

As a graduate of our programme, you can work primarily as a school religious education teacher, but not only. You can also find employment in cultural and church institutions, as well as in the media. After graduation, you can continue your studies at the doctoral level.
