Administration – 1st- and 2nd-cycle studies
Administration is a degree programme for individuals who want to understand the functioning of the state, public institutions, and organisations, and take part in decision-making and organisational processes. The studies provide solid preparation for work in both the public and private sectors, combining legal, social, and organisational knowledge.
The curriculum allows you to learn the mechanisms of administrative operation and the principles of applying law in the daily work of institutions and enterprises. This is a proposal for people who want to work with others, co-create organisational solutions, and have a real impact on how institutions function.
Full-time classes take place from Monday to Thursday, leaving you time to gain professional experience, complete internships, get involved in student research groups, or even start working while you study.
Administration is for you if you:

- are looking for a stable career path and broad employment opportunities,
- want to combine legal knowledge with organisational and social competencies.
What will you learn?
- You will learn the foundations of law necessary for administrative work, including administrative and constitutional law,
- you will gain knowledge regarding the functioning of public administration and organisations,
- you will learn to apply regulations in official and institutional practice,
- you will learn about economic, social, and ethical issues related to administrative activities.
Test yourself while still studying
As part of your studies, you will participate in compulsory professional student internship. During this internship, you will test your knowledge in real-world conditions, gain your first experience, and better prepare yourself for entering the job market.
Possible career
Upon completion of this degree programme, you can work in, among others:
- central and local government administration,
- public institutions and social organisations,
- enterprises and corporations,
- national and international institutions.
Second-cycle studies in Administration allow you to deepen your knowledge and develop specialist competences, preparing you for more advanced roles in administration and the public sector.
Graduates may also continue their education in other second-cycle degree programmes offered by the Faculty of Law and Administration, developing competences in the areas of:
- law and legal services for business activities,
- the economy, public management, and the functioning of institutions,
- specialist sectoral issues, in particular those related to environmental protection and public regulations,
- international economic trade and cooperation in a global environment.

Curriculum

Duration: 6 semesters (1st-cycle), 4 semesters (2nd-cycle)
ECTS credits: 180 (1st-cycle), 120 (2nd-cycle)
Selected courses in the Administration degree programme – 1st-cycle:
- Foundations of Management and Leadership in Administration – you will learn about various forms of management, their characteristics, and methods of application in selected areas of the economy.
- Fundamentals of Criminal Law and Misdemeanor Law – you will gain basic knowledge, skills, and competencies in the field of criminal law and the law of petty offences.
- Public Finance and Financial Law – you will find out how financial law operates in public administration.
Selected courses in the Administration degree programme – 2nd-cycle:
- Constitutional Values and Principles in the Functioning of Administration – you will learn about the basic constitutional values and principles that influence the functioning of public administration.
- European Institutions – you will find out how European institutions operate and learn about their composition, internal structure, and competencies.
- Elements of Commercial Law – you will learn about issues related to commercial law and its practical application.

Majors
You do not choose a major in the Administration degree programme.
Graduation Requirements
To take the diploma exam, you must:
- achieve all the learning outcomes specified in the curriculum,
- confirm the required knowledge of a foreign language,
- obtain a positive grade for the diploma thesis.
You complete your studies when you pass the diploma examination with at least a satisfactory result. Upon graduation, you will receive a higher education diploma, which confirms your qualifications.

Admission
Admission to studies at the University of Silesia is conducted via the IRK system: irk.us.edu.pl.
In the IRK system, you will enrol for studies and check all necessary information. You will find out what the admission process looks like, what the deadlines are, how much the application fee is and what documents you need to submit.

Admission Requirements
Administration – 1st-cycle full-time studies
Admission to the degree programme is based on the results of the Matura exam. We consider the results of the written exam in any three subjects in which you achieved your highest scores.
Importantly – the result of the basic level exam is multiplied by a factor of 0.5, while the extended level exam is multiplied by a factor of 1.

Administration – 1st-cycle part-time studies
Register in the IRK system and submit all required documents.
Admission limit: 100
Administration – 2nd-cycle full-time studies
You can enrol for 2nd-cycle studies after completing at least a Bachelor’s degree (1st-cycle studies) in any degree programme.
If you hold a diploma in such degree programmes as Administration, Law or Entrepreneurship, the grade average of your completed studies will be multiplied by 2.
Admission limit: 125
Administration – 2nd-cycle part-time studies
You can enrol for 2nd-cycle studies after completing at least a Bachelor’s degree (1st-cycle studies) in any degree programme.
If you hold a diploma in such degree programmes as Administration, Law or Entrepreneurship, the grade average of your completed studies will be multiplied by 2.
Admission limit: 100
Point Thresholds
In accordance with the admission criteria, no programme at the University of Silesia has got a predetermined point threshold.
Committees create ranking lists during the admission process. Admission thresholds change every year because they depend on the number of candidates, their Matura exam results and the applicable admission rules.
Additional Criteria
You do not need to meet any additional criteria to begin studies in this degree programme.
Internships and Work Experience
Studies in the Administration degree programme are not just dry theory – the curriculum includes 75 hours of professional student internship. Thanks to this internship, you will apply your acquired knowledge in real-life situations and prepare for the challenges that await you in your career.
During your 1st-cycle studies, you will have the opportunity to complete internship in many institutions and organisations, such as:
- the Regional Bar Association in Katowice,
- the Katowice Bar Association of Attorneys-at-Law,
- the Katowice-Zachód District Court,
- the Local Government Appeal Court in Katowice,
- the Silesian Medical Chamber in Katowice,
- WATCHDOG – an organisation working for the transparency of the legal space,
- The Office of the Commissioner for Patients’ Rights,
- the OFF Camera Film Festival in Cracow,
- the Court Watch Poland Foundation in Toruń
Cooperation
During your studies, you can take advantage of the Erasmus+ programme. You can go on a foreign internship to 31 countries. The universities are located, among others, in: Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Latvia, Greece, Germany, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Turkey, Italy, and Lithuania

- understand the principles of legal reasoning and know how to interpret administrative law regulations,
- know how the state, its institutions, and non-public organisations operate,
- know the operating principles of central and local government administration in Poland and the European Union,
- be able to apply administrative law regulations, including administrative proceedings,
- understand the constitutional principles of state functioning and important challenges of the contemporary world,
- know international and European law, including the protection of human rights,
- understand how public finance, taxes, and EU funds function,
- know how to acquire and analyse data needed in administration,
- know the foundations of civil, commercial, and criminal law, as well as civil and criminal procedures,
- possess knowledge of environmental protection law and spatial planning, also in the EU context,
- have knowledge in the field of ethics and human rights, as well as the mechanisms for their protection,
- understand the principles of labour law, civil service law, and social policy,
- have knowledge of economic administration, conducting business activity, and using EU funds,
- know issues from auxiliary sciences for administration, including copyright and industrial property protection.
