Creative Management in New Media is an interdisciplinary 2nd cycle (Master’s) programme taught in English, focused on developing competencies in digital film art and the analysis of communication processes in the media sector.
Graduating from the programme opens up opportunities for employment and further professional development in the modern media industry.
After graduation
The graduate gains qualifications in visual communication, content creation for social media platforms, and social media analysis. They acquire skills that enable them to run a blog (including a video blog), manage social media profiles, operate online stores, and work in creative agencies, e-marketing departments, or run their own business in the media sector.
The study programme covers both the analysis of how digital media systems function and their practical application in business activities.
Why study this programme?
The Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia, through its artistic, teaching, and research activities, sets standards for educating filmmakers and film producers in Poland. A key factor in its competitiveness is its academic staff, drawn from the film industry, including recognised artists and experienced audiovisual professionals.
The School is one of two public institutions in Poland offering programmes in: Film and Television Directing; Cinematography and Photography, Film and Television Production, and Creative Management in New Media. These study programmes prepare students to work in the film industry and the wider creative sectors.
The School has well-developed international cooperation, reflected in a high number of students participating in the Erasmus+ programme. Another advantage is its modern, award-winning teaching building, which meets European technical standards for educating directors and cinematographers.
Within Erasmus+, students can complete internships in one of 31 participating countries or spend part of their studies at partner universities, including institutions in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, Ireland, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, Germany, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey, and Italy.

Curriculum
Curriculum and study plan – detailed information on courses, stages of studies and description of the degree programme
Duration of studies: 4 semesters
Number of ECTS credits: 120
Selected courses at the Creative Management in New Media programme::
- Fundamentals of directing – classes include script analysis, narrative construction, and the development of directing skills under the guidance of experienced film industry practitioners.
- Post-production – the course covers working with film material, on-set workflow organisation, and data management. It presents the full film and series post-production process, including colour correction, visual effects, mastering, distribution, and archiving, as well as the basics of cost calculation.
- Sound in film and new media – classes focus on sound recording, editing, basic mixing techniques, and audio preparation. They also address the relationship between image and sound, as well as selected aspects of sound post-production.
- Social Media Marketing – the course covers communication strategies in the digital environment, the use of marketing tools in market conditions, and building brand–audience relationships through content creation and online campaign management.
Majors
The programme does not include majors – all students follow a unified curriculum. The structure of the studies is designed to provide broad, practical competencies preparing graduates for work in the media sector and creative industries.
Graduation requirements
In order to take the diploma examination, you have to:
• complete all learning outcomes specified in the study programme,
• confirm the required level of foreign language proficiency
• obtain a positive evaluation of the diploma thesis.
The studies are completed upon passing the diploma examination. Graduates receive a higher education diploma confirming the qualifications they have obtained.

Admission process
The admission process for studies at the University of Silesia is carried out via the Online Application System at irk.us.edu.pl (IRK).
In the IRK system, candidates may register for studies and obtain information about the admission process, applicable deadlines, the amount of the admission fee, and the required documents.

Qualification criteria
Full-time 2nd cycle studies in English
Applicants eligible for admission are graduates of bachelor’s or master’s degree programmes in fields such as film and theatre arts, music, fine arts or related disciplines, social communication and media studies, sociology, and the humanities.
A requirement for participation in the recruitment process is the submission of a portfolio, which should include information on:
- completion of 1st or 2nd cycle studies in one of the listed disciplines,
- experience in creative work within the audiovisual industry (if applicable).
Admission, until all places are filled, is based on an assessment of the portfolio and an interview conducted in English. The interview verifies knowledge of the contemporary creative industries, cultural institutions, the specifics of the audiovisual sector, Polish and international cinema, as well as aptitude for working in the industry.
Point tresholds
We do not set minimum point thresholds for any field of study at the University of Silesia.
Admissions committees prepare ranking lists based on candidates’ results. Admission thresholds vary each year depending on the number of candidates, their results, and the applicable qualification rules.
Fees
An admission fee of PLN 150 must be paid in order to apply for the Creative Management in New Media programme.
Internships and practical training
There are no compulsory internships in this programme.
Cooperation
As part of the studies, students may participate in the Erasmus+ programme, which enables them to complete part of their education at a partner university abroad. Students also have the opportunity to undertake work placements, internships, or traineeships in cultural institutions with which the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School maintains ongoing cooperation.
Partner universities are located in the following countries: Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Spain, Ireland, Germany, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, and Malta.

Graduates will be qualified as specialists in visual communication, content creation for social media platforms, and social media analytics. The study programme is also enriched with marketing knowledge, covering both the promotion of external brands and the development of one’s own creative activity. The studies also enable students to consciously apply media convergence in professional practice, which is of key importance in the rapidly evolving audiovisual industry. The programme is particularly suited to individuals who value the combination of soft skills with film and television craftsmanship. Career prospects for graduates are broad and include both creative roles, such as content creators (bloggers, YouTubers), and positions requiring specialised skills in multimedia content production, for example in digital agencies and PR firms, television, radio, or online media platforms.
