English Studies: Interactive Entertainment Design (SPRINT-WRITE)

Description

Would you like to combine your passion for gaming with learning English? This degree programme is a perfect match for you! You will write stories, come up with scenarios and implement your ideas, while learning English at C1 level.

During your studies, you will learn how to write creative stories and design scripts. You will learn how to create game mechanics and levels, how to plan gameplay, and how to prepare a project for different audiences. These skills will help you create interesting and engaging digital experiences.

You will work individually and in teams, immediately applying your knowledge in practice. The curriculum combines literature, culture, digital media and translation with game design and creative writing. Classes are taught by industry practitioners and graduates of the programme, allowing you to learn about the realities of working in the profession.

What’s next?
After graduation, you can work as a scriptwriter, gameplay designer, localisation specialist or member of a creative team in the gaming and digital media industry. You will learn how to create projects that engage and entertain people, and you will gain the practical skills needed for modern digital work.

Selected courses in the English Studies: Interactive Entertainment Design (SPRINT-WRITE) degree programme

  • Game Studies: Introduction to Game Studies – you will learn the basic concepts, theories and classifications of games and find out how to interpret them in the context of literature, culture and media.
  • Practical English – you practise pronunciation, grammar, writing, reading comprehension and conversing in English, using it in practical situations.
  • Game Design: Digital Games Industry – you will learn about the games market, the stages of production, roles within a team, and the basic principles of digital game design.
  • History, Culture, Literature of English-Speaking Countries – you will learn about the literature, traditions and culture of English-speaking countries in order to better understand the language and context of the projects you create.
  • Game Design: Game Development Lab – you will learn how to create digital games in practice, using engines and development tools, and how to work in a team on project prototypes.

You do not choose a major in this degree programme. All students follow the same curriculum.

In order to take the diploma examination, you have to:

  • achieve the learning outcomes provided for in the curriculum,
  • receive a positive thesis grade.

You finish your studies with a diploma exam with at least a ‘satisfactory’ grade.

As a graduate, you receive a diploma that confirms your qualifications.

Admissions to university is determined by the results of the Matura exam. We take into account the written examination in the selected subjects.

We take into account the following results: 

  • English language – weight 60%
  • one subject of your choice with the highest score – weight 20%
  • Polish language – weight 20%,

Limit of slots: 50

We do not set minimum point thresholds for any field of study at the University of Silesia.

Internships

In your third year, you will complete 80 hours of professional internship. This is an opportunity to see what working in the industry is like and to put the knowledge you have gained during your studies into practice. You will learn the practical skills needed in the profession and become familiar with the work culture and industry jargon.

Cooperation

A big advantage of this programme is the opportunity to travel abroad — as part of the Erasmus+ programme, you can:

  • go on an internship abroad in one of 31 countries,
  • study for a semester or a year at a partner university, e.g. in Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Portugal, Slovenia, Estonia, Bulgaria or Lithuania.
