First steps

What you need to get started

University life isn’t just about lecture halls; it also involves working in the digital space and developing your language skills. Find out what you need to know (and have) to make a stress-free transition into student life.

Equipment and software

Digital essentials

DURING THE ADMISSION PROCESS

All you need are the basics: a web browser, the ability to print your application form, and the ability to upload a photo to the system.

  • Don’t have a computer or internet access? No problem. Come to the admission point at the university – we’ll provide you with a computer and a printer and help you through the entire registration process.

Watch our tutorial video on how to register:

DURING YOUR STUDIES

You will use Word/Writer, Excel/Calc and email on a daily basis. For online classes, we require:

  • a computer with internet access,
  • a working webcam and microphone,
  • and the ability to use the university platforms (MS Teams, Moodle).

THE USOS SYSTEM, YOUR VIRTUAL DEAN’S OFFICE

It is the most important system at the university. This is where you can check your class schedule, enrol in courses, view your grades and apply for a scholarship or dormitory

Technical issues? We have the right people on hand to help you out. The Distance Learning Centre (CKO) provides step-by-step instructions, and the USOS system has its own Helpdesk to assist you in the event of a technical failure.

Foreign languages

Required proficiency levels upon graduation

Every degree programme includes modules (courses) taught in a foreign language. Your goal by the end of your studies is to demonstrate your language proficiency:

  • 1st-cycle studies (Bachelor’s/Engineering): the required level is B2.
  • 2nd-cycle studies (Master’s) and long-cycle studies: the required level is B2+.

How can you reach the required level?

You don’t have to study on your own. You can attend:

– free university language courses organised by the Foreign Language Teaching Centre (SPNJO)

– or by taking part in specialist classes taught in a foreign language.

Already have a language certificate?

Great! Find out how to validate your language skills without having to take the final exam at the university. Visit the SPNJO website.
