Online Application System and Registration
1. What does the admission process at the University of Silesia look like?
You can find a step-by-step guide to the recruitment process and a video on how to register in the Online Application System at https://rekrutacja.us.edu.pl/en/admission-process-step-by-step/
2. I haven’t got my secondary school-leaving certificate yet – can I register in the Online Application System?
Yes. However, the Online Application System requires you to specify the year and country where your secondary school-leaving certificate was issued. Any further information may be provided by the registration deadline for the course.
3. How do I get a username and password to the Online Application System?
You will need to set a password when registering in the Online Application System; the email address you provide will serve as your account login. Check your inbox! We’ll send an activation link to the email address you entered in the Online Application System. Just click the link to get your account up and running.
If you forget your password, you can recover it. A new password or a reset link will be sent to the email address you used when registering in the Online Application System.
4. How do candidates without their PESEL number register?
In the second step of the registration process (after giving consent and confirming that you have read the recruitment rules), select the option ‘I do not have a PESEL number’; the Online Application System will then generate a unique number, which the system treats as your PESEL number.
5. Can I apply for more than one degree programme?
Yes. There is no limit to the number of courses you can apply for. Keep in mind that you’ll need to pay a separate application fee for every programme you choose.
6. Where do I give consent to have my Matura results retrieved from the registry?
The declaration of consent to transfer your Matura exam results to the KReM system (Polish Registry of Matura Results) is submitted at your secondary school, along with your final declaration of chosen Matura subjects. The original consent forms are kept by the schools, so checking with your school is the easiest way to verify if you gave consent. Alternatively, you can contact your relevant Regional Examination Board (OKE).
7. I am retaking some of my Matura exams to improve my scores. Should I provide last year’s certificate number or this year’s
You must enter the number of the Matura certificate you received the first time (your original certificate). The document you receive when improving your grades is an annex to your original Matura certificate. In the Online Application System, you should enter your original certificate number followed by the numbers of all subsequent annexes, separated by commas.
8. When and how will I know if I’ve been accepted?
Candidates will be notified of the results via their personal account in the Online Application System.
The information that you have been accepted for admission will be available in your personal account in the Online Application System, ‘Enrolment Applications’, in the table qualification status.
The dates for the announcement of results are specified in the admissions schedule in the Online Application System, separately for each course.
Once you’ve been accepted into a programme, the following message will appear by the name of the programme and your score: Qualification status: accepted
- Learn about other qualification statuses at https://rekrutacja.us.edu.pl/en/admission-results-check-your-status/
9. Does the status ‘admitted’ mean the same as ‘accepted’?
No. The candidate that has been accepted for admission is required to confirm their intention to pursue a degree programme by submitting all the required documents to the dean’s office of the relevant faculty.
Only after this requirement has been met and the candidate has been entered into the USOS system by the dean’s office is the candidate admitted to the degree programme. At that point, the following information will appear in the candidate’s personal account in the Online Application System, in the ‘Enrolment Applications’ tab:
in the table ‘Qualification status’: ‘qualified’
in the table ‘Decision’: ‘admitted’
Recruitment rules
1. What does the term ‘old Matura’ mean?
‘Old Matura’ refers to the Polish secondary school-leaving certificate obtained before 2005, where the document is issued by the school rather than the Regional Examination Board. (OKE).
2. How are results from basic and extended level Matura exams converted
Detailed information on the conversion of grades can be found at https://rekrutacja.us.edu.pl/przeliczanie-ocen-z-matur/
3. Missing a required subject in your Matura exams?
You can still apply!
* Condition: the degree programme you are interested in must take more than one subject into account, and you must have a result in at least one of them.
- for the missing subject, the system will simply award you 0 points in the ranking.
- exception: for some degree programmes, having a specific subject is a so-called formal requirement (meaning you cannot even begin the application process without it). Always check this in the degree programme description.
4. No diploma during application for 2nd cycle studies
A candidate for 2nd cycle studies enters their degree grade and overall degree average into the Online Application System (IRK). In addition, they upload scans of:
- their degree diploma (if the candidate is awaiting the issue of their degree diploma, they must upload a certificate confirming that they have passed their final examination, issued by the university);
- certificate of grade point average for the completed degree;
- the diploma supplement (if required by the admission criteria for the chosen degree programme);
- other documents (if required by the admission criteria for the chosen degree programme
5. What are the point thresholds?
In accordance with the adopted admission criteria, none of the degree programmes at the University of Silesia are subject to restrictions in the form of minimum point thresholds. Consequently, the university does not inform applicants of the minimum point thresholds applicable in previous admission rounds.
The point thresholds for a given year depend, among other things, on the number of applicants, the results achieved by students sitting the matura exams, and the established eligibility criteria. Information on the number of applicants per place in previous years:

Required documents
1. Where can I find the university application form?
The application form can be printed from the study candidate’s personal account in the Online Application System (IRK) – under the Applications tab. Under the chosen degree programme, look for Documents and next steps.
2. Can someone else submit the documents on my behalf (e.g. a parent, brother or sister, another family member, a friend, etc.)?
If a prospective student is unable to fulfil all the obligations associated with the application process, they may authorise a third party to do so.
Complete the authorisation form.
Download the authorisation form template (pdf, 160 kB).
Please note that the authorised person cannot sign documents on your behalf.
3. If I have retaken my matura exams, do I need to submit my secondary school-leaving certificate and annex?
Yes, you must submit a photocopy of the certificate and photocopies of all annexes.
4. Does failing to submit the documents on time disqualify me from applying for admission to the degree programme?
Yes, failing to submit the documents confirming your intention to undertake studies by the specified deadline is equivalent to withdrawing your application for admission.
5. What documents do I need to submit to the dean’s office?
The list of documents for Polish citizens is available at https://rekrutacja.us.edu.pl/wymagane-dokumenty/
The list of documents for foreigners is available at https://rekrutacja.us.edu.pl/en/foreigners/required-documents/
Fees
1. How much is the admission fee?
The admission fees can be found on the website at https://rekrutacja.us.edu.pl/en/foreigners/tuition-fees/
You can check your admission fees in your personal account in the Online Application System: under the ‘Payments’ tab.
2. If I apply for several degree programmes, do I have to pay multiple application fees, or is one enough?
A candidate applying for multiple degree programmes must pay the fee for each one of them.
3. If I only pay a part of the application fee, will I be considered in the admissions process?
No. To be considered for admission to your chosen degree programme, the admission fee must be processed and allocated to that programme in the Online Application System in full.
4. Where can I find my personal bank account number to which I should pay the admission fee?
The bank account number to which the admission fee is to be paid can be found in your account in the Online Application System under the ‘Payments’ tab (at the bottom of the page).
Each candidate is given a unique bank account number to which the application fee must be paid.
The account is only active during the admission process, and only the admission fee should be paid into it. Once the admission process has ended, the account will be closed
5. I don’t have my own bank account – can I pay the application fee from someone else’s account, for example my parents’?
Yes, it doesn’t matter – you can deposit the money into your account in any way you like; the most important thing is that the money is transferred to the individual account number generated by the Online Application System during application.
6. I haven't included my name or PESEL number in the sender details when making the transfer. Will the money still be allocated to my account in the Online Application System
Yes. As long as the correct account number was provided for the transfer, the payment will be successfully processed and allocated to your account. The details entered in the ‘sender’ and ‘transfer title’ fields are not critical at this stage.
7. Can I change the degree programme that my fee is allocated to?
Yes, but only if registration is still open. You can change your paid programmes by going to the ‘Payments’ tab and selecting ‘Set priorities’
8. I’ve forgotten to pay the admission fee by the deadline; can I pay it at a later date?
No. The deadline is the day the specific degree programme closes in the Online Application System.
9. I paid the application fee a few days ago, but my account still shows that the payment is missing. Why?
This happens because it takes some time for the funds to clear and be credited to your account in the Online Application System. The Online Application System is not a banking system; it retrieves payment confirmation from the bank. Please wait patiently for the system to update. Keep in mind that bank transfers are not processed on weekends. Once the money is processed, a confirmation message will appear on your account in the Online Application System. Bank transfers typically take about 3–4 days to clear, while payments made through the post office take even longer.
The quickest way is to make the payment via the ‘ING imoje’” payment gateway in the Online Application System. The payment is processed within 5 minutes.
10. When can I apply for a refund of the admission fee?
You will receive a refund if one of the following six situations applies:
- The programme was not launched (e.g., due to an insufficient number of candidates).
- You transferred more money than required, resulting in an overpayment.
- The fee was submitted past the deadline (the funds arrived too late, and you were not included in the admissions process).
- You did not select a degree programme (you transferred the money but failed to choose a specific degree programme in the system, creating an unallocated overpayment).
- You withdrew the fee in time (you clicked ‘Withdraw fee’ in the ‘Payments’ tab in the Online Application System before registration for that programme closed.
- You missed a mandatory entrance exam due to unforeseen circumstances (you must prove this with a relevant supporting document, e.g., a medical certificate).
